R U a Safe Driver?

The dangers of texting while driving are tremendous.  Wisconsin, among other states, is taking a stand on the issue in hopes to make roads safe.

On December 1, 2011, Wisconsin joined 30 other states in enacting legislation that prohibits behind-the-wheel texting.  Texting while driving is seen as a primary offense, which means you may be pulled over and ticketed based on a text message offense alone; these fines could reach $400.

The AAA reported that additional findings have shown that individuals who text while driving are more than 20 times (!!) more likely to be involved in a crash than non-distracted drivers.  In addition, according to a new survey from the Insurance Research Council, 31% of drivers aged 16-24 said they texted while driving and 41% of drivers age 25-39 -- compared to only 5% of drivers 55+ -- reported texting while driving.

Recently, AT&T launched a 'Txtng & Driving' Campaign urging consumers that no matter what the message, it can wait.  Here is the trailer to their campaign documentary:

Protecting Your Valuable Items

Protect your valuables with proper coverage
Many people know that over time certain gold, platinum and silver jewelry may rise in value, thus, you must make sure you have proper coverage for these precious items.

“Historically, we have seen clients underinsured by 40 to 60 percent across all categories of valuable articles, including jewelry,” explains Gerald Escobar, principal of Asset Archives, a global appraisal firm based in Atlanta, GA.

3 Steps to Protect Your Valuable Items:
  1. Update Your Inventory: You should review and adjust your inventory to reflect the most current inventory of gold necklaces, watches, and other precious items.
  2. Compare Value with Coverage Limits: Homeowners policies have special limits on the amounts they will pay for jewelry and other collectible items. Purchasing additional protection through valuable policy on an individual (scheduled) or blanket basis is often necessary.
  3.  Repeat:  The best and easiest way to keep your valuables well protected is to partner with your Mid-State Insurance agent for a once-a-year review of your insurance needs.

Does Personal Auto Insurance Cover a Rental Car?

Now that it is summer you may take a trip somewhere and find yourself in need of a car, but are you covered through your insurance policy?

Most rental companies offer some form of insurance when renting.  However, you may not need this coverage if your insurance policy covers it.  Before you head off on your adventure remember to check with your customer service representative at Mid-State Insurance.

Planning to travel a lot? The rental company’s insurance too pricy? You may want to consider adding this extra coverage to your auto insurance policy.  If you do not own a car, check with your Mid-State insurance agent about a non-owner auto insurance policy.  Finally, check with your credit card company, some companies offer coverage as well.
